After a trip to Cuba in 2001, Miguel Ángel Martínez Vázquez formed the group SON SUR in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz. From this point on, the group was recognized throughout the state of Veracruz with a repertory that includes: boleros, son cubano, original compositions and fusions of Mexican music.

After two years of playing in diverse venues, nationally and internationally, Miguel Martínez traveled to the United States, where he recreated SON SUR with the most highly recognized musicians of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Currently the band members are: Miguel Martínez on flute, Carlos Caro (Cuba) on the timbales, Julio Pérez (Puerto Rico) on the conga, Saúl Sierra (México) on the bass, Marco A. Díaz (San Francisco) on the piano, and José Roberto Hernández(México) on vocals and guitar. Due to their international formation, the group has adopted the name of SON SUR INTERNATIONAL ENSEMBLE, and later, CORAZÓN SUR.

Miguel Martinez has had the opportunity to share the stage with internationallyacclaimed musicians such as Félix Valoy, Ma. Teresa Catula, Pio Leyva, Afro Cuban All Stars, The Underdogs, Holly Shelton, Nelly Thibudeaux and the Etouffe Band, Habana Club Ensemble, la Bande Feuforlt, David Batiste and Friends of South Africa, among others.
